San Pedro de la Paz is a city in central Chile in the Región del Bío-Bío . It has 131,684 inhabitants (as of April 2017).
geography
San Pedro de la Paz is one of 52 municipalities in the Bío-Bío region and belongs to the Gran Concepción agglomeration . The city is located just a few kilometers south of Concepción , on the Bío Bío River directly on the Pacific Ocean . It has an area of 112.5 km² and 14 km of coast on the Pacific.
The climate is Mediterranean.
history
In 1603, the town of Fuerte de San Pedro de la Paz was founded by Governor Alonso de Ribera . The place served as an outpost against attacks by the Mapuche . The Puente Ferroviario bridge was built in 1888 and the Puente Viejo bridge over the Bío-Bío river in 1942 . Together with these bridges, the population has increased extremely rapidly, by a factor of 20 in the last 30 years.

Around 22 km of the Bío-Bío river with the lagoons Laguna Grande San Pedro and Laguna Chica San Pedro offer wonderful natural landscapes for hiking.
Personalities
Luis Alberto Acevedo (1885–1913) was a Chilean aviation pioneer who made long flights in Chile between 1912 and 1913 with his Blériot monoplane. On March 22, 1913, he flew the Concepción - Talca route .
