Sancta Ana Basilica
The Sancta Ana Basilica (English: Basilica of St. Anna ) is a Roman Catholic church in Leulumoega on the coast of the island of Upolu in the Pacific state of Samoa . It is consecrated to the Mother of Mary Anna and belongs to the Archdiocese of Samoa-Apia and has the rank of a minor basilica .
history
The Catholic parishes and church buildings on Upolu were built from the middle of the 19th century through the work of Marist Fathers .
As part of his trip to Oceania, Pope Paul VI celebrated. on November 30, 1970 a holy mass in Leulumoega.
On December 8, 2009, Pope Benedict XVI. the church to the Basilica minor.
Building
The yellow painted cross basilica has a two-tower facade with flat ends of the bell towers. The entrance area is covered with a large porch. The interior is designed in white, with a ceilings above the aisles , and is dominated by a wooden crucifix in front of the apse , and the flat vaulted ceiling is also made of brown wood. The windows are made as colorful, modern leaded glass windows . They show pictures of the apostles and scenes from the Bible such as the expulsion from paradise and the feast of Pentecost . There is a large statue of the Virgin Mary on the right-hand side of the choir .
