The Sandefjord Cove ( Norwegian Sandefjordbukta ) is a bay on the Lazarew coast of the West Antarctic Peter I Island . It lies between Cape Ingrid and the confluence of the Tofte glacier in the Bellingshausen Sea .
The bay was discovered while circumnavigating Peter I Island in 1927 with the ship Odd I under captain Eyvind Tofte on the first Antarctic voyage financed by the Norwegian whaling entrepreneur Lars Christensen (1926–1927). In February 1929 the crew of the Norvegia under Captain Nils Larsen (1900–1976) hoisted the Norwegian flag here. It is named after the Norwegian city of Sandefjord , the center of Norwegian whaling .
