The nature reserve Sandgruben am Föhrenbuck is located in the south of the municipality of Nuremberg .
It is located south of the descent of name-giving Föhrenbucks between the exit Nuremberg royal highway A73 , east of Bayernhafen Nuremberg at Rhine-Main-Danube Canal and west of Nuremberg local part Pillenreuth .
In 1992, the abandoned were sand mining sites in the districts Eibacher forestry and Worzeldorf by Regulation 325966 to reserve declared endangered animal and plant species.
Flora and fauna
The biotope mosaic consisting of open water areas, silting areas, pioneering societies with variable humidity, grasslands , perennial vegetation, heather areas, open sand areas and surrounding mixed pine forests promotes the occurrence of numerous rare plant species such as pill fern , mountain sand bells and sundew as well as animal species such as kingfisher , woodlark and natterjack toad .
maintenance
The diverse habitats are u. a. Maintained by the Nuremberg Landscape Management Association with local farmers. The maintenance and development concept includes the restoration of an open central humid area. Trees were removed from an area of 1.25 hectares, the existing standing water was desludged and new small water bodies were developed. In order to promote dragonfly species, the moat was partially desludged.
