Sandro Brugnolini

Allesandro "Sandro" Brugnolini (born December 1, 1931 in Rome ) is an Italian jazz and fusion musician (saxophone) and film composer .

Live and act

Brugnolini grew up in Rome; From 1956 he was a member of the Modern Jazz Gang , in which he played the saxophone, arranged and wrote most of the compositions for the band's albums. The modern jazz gang's debut album , which also included trumpeter Cicci Santucci , was a self-titled EP released on Italian RCA Victor . He became known nationwide through an appearance at the National Jazz Festival in 1958 with his composition Arpo , which received the award as the best original composition. In 1960 the band released the album Miles Before and After (with Metal Carlo, Alberto Collatina and Enzo Scoppa); from 1963 he worked mainly as a film composer. For the soundtrack of Enzo Battaglia's film Gli arcangeli (1963) he worked with his band and the jazz singer Helen Merrill , in which Brugnolini's composition Helen's Blues was recorded.

In 1965 Brugnolini left the band. In 1966 he released his debut album New Sound Di Sandro Brugnolini (Studio Musicale Romano); Musica per comment sonori was released in 1969 , which was followed by a series of other mostly psychedelic fusion / prog rock albums with influences from electronic music such as Underground (with Giovanni Tommaso , among others ), Overground (with Vincenzo Restuccia, both released in 1970), Feelings (1974, with Giancarlo Gazzani and Puccio Roelens). Until 1975 he wrote other film scores for films a. a. by Sergio Spina ( Fantabulous ), Tullio Piacentini , Ruggero Deodato and Carlo Ferrero , as well as for various television series and documentaries. Brugnolini also worked as a parliamentary reporter from 1967 to 1993 and worked as a music critic for many years.
