The Baumberger sandstone route leads through the five Baumberge communities Havixbeck , Billerbeck , Rosendahl , Coesfeld and Nottuln and is approx. 160 km long. It is signposted as a circular route in both directions; the route can be started at any location. The tour focuses on around 80 sights that were designed from Baumberger sand-lime brick .

The route was developed in 1996 with originally around 200 sights of various kinds, such as moated castles, old farmhouses, watermills and granaries as well as crosses and wayside shrines. In 2006 the Baumberge Touristik reprinted the guide in its current form.

In autumn 2019, the Baumberger sandstone route began to be redesigned and revised.
