The Sandstone Peak , also called Mount Allen ( 949 m ) is the highest mountain in the Santa Monica Mountains .
The summit can be reached as an easy mountain hike via the Sandstone Peak Trail . At the summit is a bust of W. Herbert Allen , who donated land to the Boy Scouts , who wanted the summit to be named after him. However, the petition for this has been denied and the official name of the summit is still Sandstone Peak.
In contrast to the name given, the summit is of volcanic origin, namely andesite and not sandstone .
