River course

The Sandy Brook forms the drain of the approximately 218  m high Sandy Lake . A weir regulates the flow of the lake. The Sandy Brook flows in a northeast direction. At river kilometer 20 there is an inflow of Diversion Lake on the right side , which is also regulated outflow. At river kilometer 7, Sandy Lake is dammed over a length of 4.4 km. Below the dam is the Sandy Brook hydroelectric power station. The Sandy Brook finally flows into the Exploits River 9 km west of Grand Falls-Windsor .

Hydrology

The Sandy Brook drains an area of about 520 km². The mean discharge at the Sandy Brook hydropower station, 7 km above the estuary, is 12.4 m³ / s. In April and May the Sandy Brook carries the largest amount of water a year, with an average of 23.8 and 25.5 m³ / s respectively.

Sandy Brook Hydroelectric Power Station

The Sandy Brook hydroelectric power station ( ) is located on the river 7 km above its mouth. It was put into operation in 1963. It has an output of 6.31 MW. The plant is operated by Newfoundland Power , a subsidiary of Fortis Inc.
