Grand Falls-Windsor is a small town ( Town ) on the island of Newfoundland in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador . The city, which was created in 1991 by merging the two communities of Windsor (north of the Trans-Canada Highway ) and Grand Falls (south of the Trans-Canada Highway), is located on the Exploits River . The most important branches of the economy are forestry and the paper industry. The city is surrounded by a wilderness with elk , caribou , black bear and fox . The salmon that live in the Exploits River attract people from all over the world.
Demographics
The 2016 census revealed a population of 14,171 for the municipality. In the previous 2006 and 2011 censuses, the population was 13,558 and 13,725, respectively. Thus, the population has increased slightly in recent years.
Worth seeing
The Mary March Provincial Museum at Grand Falls at 24 Catherine St. a. with the geology, history and industrialization of the region. However, it is primarily known for its exhibits that illustrate the culture of the Beothuk . The museum is named after one of the last members of this tribe, who was called Demasduit and was called Mary March by the white settlers . A locomotive of the Newfoundland Railway , which was completed in 1898 and closed in 1988, was placed in front of the museum . Also worth a visit is the Salmonid Interpretation Center at the waterfalls of the Exploit River, from which the place Grand Falls owes its name.
