Kim Sang-jin (born August 9, 1967 in Seoul , South Korea ) is a South Korean director , writer and producer .

With the absurd comedy Attack the Gas Station! , in which a gang of thugs occupied a gas station and beat up half the city, he made his breakthrough in 1999. It was the second best-selling film of the year and one of the most spectacular films by the so-called Korean Wave .

Kim Sang-jin is known in Korea as the inventor of Korean gangster comedy and believes that comedies have the power to convey a social message.

According to jumpcut.de, Kick The Moon was “a study in happy excess” and with over 4.3 million viewers, it was his biggest hit to date. Jail Breakers received poor reviews but still drew over 3 million viewers.
