Sangit Om

Sangit Om ( Sanskrit : Sangit = music, Om = the sound of silence) is the artist pseudonym of the German musician, composer and music producer Stefan Petersilge (born December 13, 1954 in Kirchheim unter Teck ). Stylistically, his compositions move between New Age and World Music . He uses oriental sounds and instruments as well as elements of European or western music.

Life

Stefan Petersilge first studied composition with Hans Vogt at the Mannheim-Heidelberg University of Music and later with Ladislav Kupkovič at the Hanover University of Music and Theater . There he passed the state examination in 1979.

After working as a jazz pianist, theater composer and studio musician, he later became interested in non-European musical cultures, especially Indian music. During several trips to India he learned to play the bansuri , the Indian bamboo flute. In Greece he later learned Greek dance and the Cretan lyre. In 1988 he released his first CD “SANGIT OM - TRUE STORIES” on Nightingale Records, where the first recordings of Anugama , Karunesh and Kamal were made. 3 more CDs for Nightingale Records followed. He later switched to other music labels. He released 6 more CDs for the Dutch label OREADE and 3 CDs for EMI under the label “New Spirit”. As a producer and musician, he also oversaw numerous publications by other artists.

Stefan Petersilge has lived in Greece since 2002, where he works as a musician and music producer, and organizes seminars and workshops on the subject of music and dance.
