Sangsar ( Persian سنگسر Sangesar or Sang-e Sar ; as well as Mehdishahr , Persianمهدی‌شهر Mahdischahr ) is a city in the district of the same name in the Iranian province of Semnan .

geography

Sangsar is located on the southern slopes of the Elbors Mountains , 20 km north of the provincial capital Semnan . In the north, the district borders on the province of Mazandaran .

Sangesar is shaped by the Elbors Mountains. Winters can get very cold and heavy snowfalls can occur. In the summer there is a rather mild climate in the region.

The district has an area of ​​approximately 1100 km².

history

The city is already mentioned and sung about in old heroic legends, for example in the Shāhnāmeh of the poet Firdausi .

Economy and Infrastructure

The main road connection is from Semnan via Sangesar to Shahmirzād to the Fooladmahale, which connects these cities with the city of Sari .
