Sanih Savdir (* 1927 in Istanbul ) is a Munich dentist . Numerous celebrities, including many Bavarian politicians such as Franz Josef Strauss and Edmund Stoiber , sought treatment from him. In 2007 , Savdir was awarded the Bavarian Order of Merit .

Life

After graduating from high school, Savdir began a career in the Turkish Air Force . A plane crash ended his military career and led him to a clinic in Munich for treatment. After his recovery Savdir remained in Munich , he studied dentistry and in 1963 with a thesis on methods of tooth mobility measurement doctorate . After stints in New York and Zurich , he settled as a dentist in Munich in 1969 and, according to his own statements, was one of the first to place implants in Germany . One day the then Bavarian Prime Minister Franz Josef Strauss became aware of Savdir and was already very satisfied with the first treatment, which got around. Through word of mouth, Savdir had become a politician dentist without any involvement, from which "really close friendships" developed over time. In 1999 Savdir retired.

In 1985, Savdir received the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon at Strauss's suggestion . In 2007 Edmund Stoiber awarded him the Bavarian Order of Merit shortly before his resignation as Prime Minister . The medal awards were criticized as " bizarre " and " nepotism " , among other things. The object of criticism was, in particular, the intransparent selection process of the Bavarian order and the practice of the Bavarian State Chancellery in not providing any information about the specific reasons for an award. Contrary to its usual practice , the State Chancellery announced on request that Savdir had "in addition to his academic work, above all with charitable and social engagement for children in need", and that the Bavarian Order usually follows the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon.

Savdir is married and lives in Munich.
