Architecture and history

The hospital's brick chapel was probably built in the late 14th century. It may have been run by Franciscans .

It is designed as a hall and includes two yokes with polygonal closure . The gable side of the chapel faces the street. On this side there is also the entrance in the middle, which is designed as a three-tiered ogival portal. The walls of the portal are provided with glazed and unglazed bricks alternately. Above the portal there is a three-lane tracery window , to the side of which are low pointed arch panels and above which double lancet panels are arranged. Slender panels are incorporated into the gable itself. It is crowned by fragmented pegs .

The polygon of the choir is provided with buttresses .

The interior of the chapel is spanned by two ribbed vaults. The choir has a 5 / 10th polygonal vault. The ribs are painted red and rest on foliage consoles. The side walls are provided with double lancet apertures. The choir has tracery windows. They consist of double lancets, which are crowned by trimmed three passes.

There is a gallery on the west side of the chapel . Both the gallery, the pulpit , the altar and the chapel stalls date from the 19th century. A wooden carved altar from around 1500 is much older. In the shrine there is a model of a chapel, a representation of an apostle and a female saint figure, possibly a representation of Mary. Four saints are depicted in each of the wings of the shrine. From the beginning of the 16th century there is a group of carvings showing Saint George with a dragon. In the chapel there is also a copy of the painting The Lamentation of Christ by van Dyck from the 19th century. There is also an inscription tombstone for Ernestina Sophia Dennstaedt, who died in 1813.

A nursing home for the elderly adjoining the chapel continues the tradition of the hospital today. The former cemetery belonging to the hospital is used as a garden.
