List of domestic dogs

The Sanshu ( Japanese 三 州 犬 , Sanshū inu / ken ) is a dog breed from Japan previously recognized by the FCI (formerly Group 5, Section 5, Standard No. 258 ).

Origin and history

The Sanshu originated from 1912 on the Japanese main island of Honshū by crossing the Chow Chow with medium-sized native dogs. It is named after the province of Sanshū (now Aichi Prefecture ). As a result, the breed spread throughout Japan and was also recognized by the FCI with the standard number 258. In 1988 the Japanese Kennel Club applied to the FCI to delete the breed because the club believed it was a mixed breed .

description

The Sanshu is a very tough dog that is popular and quite common as a family dog across Japan . It is available in two sizes: 51–60 cm and 40–46 cm. It has roughly the appearance of a small Akita or a large Shiba . The fur is of medium length and dense in fox red, black red, red, black, light brown, pepper and salt , black and white or spotted.

The head is large, the skullcap a little flat, the forehead slightly rounded. The muzzle is thick, short, wedge-shaped. The eyes are dark and almond-shaped. The ears are small, triangular, upright, set on slightly to the side. The tail is carried curled over the back.
