The Santa Helena class , also known as the Santa Helena, is a multi-purpose cargo ship from the Emder Cassens shipyard . Another unit of the type built the shipyard Paul Lindenau in Kiel, the Emder Nordseewerke and the shipyard Dorbyl Marine in Durban delivered hulls.

details

The series was built from 1985 for various German shipping companies. The ships are designed as multi-purpose dry cargo ships with an aft deckhouse and a hold . The volume of the hold is 5,494 m³ in the first two ships and 5,769 m³ in the following buildings. The tank top is designed for loading heavy goods, coils , etc. The movable intermediate decks can be loaded with up to 2.5 tons / m², the hatch covers with 1.68 tons / m². The ships are mainly used in the transport of bulk goods, bulk cargo, smaller project cargoes or containers. The container capacity of the first two ships is 198 TEU, and of the subsequent builds due to changes in the stowage positions and the line of sight, 240 TEU. The further development has also increased the load capacity from 3840 tons to 4260 tons. Most of the ships in the series have two electrohydraulic NMF cranes, each with a lifting capacity of 25 tons, which are arranged on port side and which can move packages of up to 50 tons in coupled operation . The holds of the ships are partly closed with folding hatch covers and partly with lifting roll covers.

The ships are powered by a MWM four-stroke diesel engine of the type TBD 510 L 06 with an output of 1660 kW. The engine drives a shaft generator and the controllable pitch propeller and enables a speed of 13.4 knots. The further development of the shipping lines from the new Jan Luiken building reduced the drive power required for a speed of twelve knots by 180 kW. Two auxiliary diesels and an emergency diesel generator are available. The berthing and casting off maneuvers are supported by a bow thruster .

Individual chambers are available to accommodate twelve crew members.
