Santa Margarida is a place in the Mé-Zóchi district on the island of São Tomé in the island state of São Tomé and Príncipe . In 2012, 384 inhabitants were counted.

The place is at an altitude of about 241  m about one kilometer southwest of Madalena and 4 km northwest of the provincial capital Trindade .

history

The old plantation (roça) was around 1855 by the Spaniards , Velarde y Romero de Francisco Assis founded and named after his daughter. With a cultivated area of ​​810 hectares, it was one of the largest plantations on the island for a long time and is known for growing cocoa . The quartier des sanzalas (workers' bedrooms) was built into the earth with a single entrance on the side of the main building of the plantation.
