The Church of Santa Maria Maddalena dei Pazzi is located at 58 Borgo Pinti Street in the northeast of the historic center of Florence . It is under the patronage of St. Mary Magdalene of Pazzi , a Carmelite from the Pazzi family .

St. Maria Magdalena von Pazzi belonged to the convent of Santa Maria Maddalena la Penitente, founded in 1257 . In 1442 the complex was given to the Cistercians . The church was expanded from 1480 to 1500 based on plans by Giuliano da Sangallo . The same architect built the atrium with Ionic columns , which art historians consider an important example of a symbiosis of the building type of a monastery quarter with the architectural forms of antiquity.

In 1628 the monastery passed to the Order of the Carmelites of the Elder Observance, further renovation measures were implemented according to the designs of Luigi Arrigucci (1575–1644). In 1685 a new choir chapel was completed.
