Mary Magdalene of Pazzi

Maria Magdalena von Pazzi (Italian: Maria Maddalena de 'Pazzi) (born April 2, 1566 in Florence as Caterina de Pazzi; † May 25, 1607 ibid) was a Carmelite and mystic . She is venerated as a saint in the Catholic Church and is the patron saint of Florence and Naples .

Life

The daughter of the aristocratic Pazzi family had mystical experiences as early as 1578 . In 1582 she entered the convent of the Carmelites of the old Observance in her home town of Florence on a trial basis for 15 days . On January 3, 1583, she was dressed , and made her profession on May 27, 1584 in articulo mortis (in the face of death), but then did not die. From 1590 she had more and more visions that were written down. From 1598 she was novice master . She died on May 25th, 1607. Her undestroyed body has been in a reliquary in the Carmel of Santa Maria Maddalena dei Pazzi in Florence since 1888 .

Maria Magdalena von Pazzi and her works had a great influence on spirituality and piety, especially in Italy, until the 18th century.

Salvatore Sciarrino composed texts of the saints in his work Infinito nero (1998).

Adoration

Mary Magdalene de 'Pazzi was on May 8 in 1626 by Pope Urban VIII. Beatified and on April 22, 1669 Pope Clement IX. canonized .

Her feast day is May 25th , in the Trappist and Cistercian orders May 26th , in Italy also March 30th locally .
