Santa Maria di Castellabate

Santa Maria di Castellabate is an Italian coastal town in the Cilento with about 4,000 inhabitants. It is a district of the municipality of Castellabate in the province of Salerno ( Campania ). Since 1991 the place is part of the National Park Cilento and Vallo di Diano and a member of the Costiera Cilentana .

history

Santa Maria di Castellabate was formerly called "Ischia della Chitarra" (the Ischia of the guitars) and at the end of the 19th century was no more than a small suburb of Castellabate. The most populous district is characterized by its ancient core, which has developed around the "Villa Principe di Belmonte" and the "Torre Perrotti" tower. The port has been used since the year 1000 for the transport of Cilento products to Cava and from there to Naples.

Santa Maria di Castellabate is the birthplace of Riccardo Luca Guariglia OSB , abbot of the Montevergine Territorial Abbey.

Santa Maria di Castellabate is a district of Castellabate and borders directly on San Marco (Castellabate) in the south . The pedestrian zone begins at the "Villa Matarazzo", goes past the "Museo del Mare e del Parco Nazionale del Cilento" to the "Piazza Lucia", the seat of the town hall.
