Santa Maria di Monserrato

The three-aisled former cathedral Santa Maria di Monserrato in the "abandoned city" of Tratalias , consecrated in 1213, is one of the last Pisan churches to be built in Sardinia . Tratalias is located in the Sulcis in the province of Sud Sardegna and has about 1100 inhabitants. The place in the middle Sulcis was until 1503 the seat of the Diocese of Sulcis.

The transition from Romanesque to Gothic , which already resonated in San Pietro di Sorres , emerges in this narrow complex with the small apse and in some details. A round window in the upper part of the facade , blend arched friezes and rhombuses in the wall surface . The same goes for the design of the north portal, with its ogival lunette and the architrave with the relief of opposing lions. Stand in the bar-covered interior, instead of columns, Achteckpfeiler with acanthus leaf - capitals . The course of the staircase that leads from the north nave to the central gable triangle on the front and then on the outside to the roof is peculiar.
