List of Romanesque churches in the Pisan or Provencal style in Sardinia
List of Romanesque churches in the Pisan or Provencal style in Sardinia .
The churches of the Pisan - Genoese period (11th - 14th centuries) are not Sardinian creations, but mostly modest copies of Pisan / Tuscan sacred buildings. Master builders from Italy were embarked for their construction . But Arab and southern French craftsmen also left their mark. Since little was changed in the churches in the following centuries, they often embody pure Romanesque - which is rare on the mainland. The most beautiful of the so-called Pisan churches are in northern Sardinia, many in the vicinity of Sassari . In the area around Cagliari , on the other hand, there are churches that are clearly Provencal .
