Ploaghe is an Italian municipality in the province of Sassari on the island of Sardinia with 4440 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It is located about 20 km from Sassari .
The titular diocese of Ploaghe of the Roman Catholic Church goes back to a diocese of the city that existed from the 11th to the 16th century .
Ploaghe is an elongated village on the southern slope of Monte San Matteo, an extinct volcano in southern Logudoro . The parish church of San Pietro of the former bishopric (1090–1525) is the center of a remarkable building complex. In the sacristy, which, like the choir, is furnished with ornate wooden furniture from the 17th century, hangs a 1.7 x 1.6 m panel by the Master of Ozieri, probably the only remnant of a large reredos from the former cathedral.
Next to the church is the Camposanto Vecchio, restored in 1982, with numerous grave inscriptions in the Logudoric dialect, including some from the Spano (Ispanu) family; Ploaghe is home to the forefather of the sardologists, the canon, archaeologist, philologist, writer and collector Giovanni Spano (1803-1878).
Ploaghe station is located to the southwest on the Ozieri-Chilivani-Porto Torres Marittima railway line .
