Attractions

The village is known nationwide for the fountain sanctuaries Predio Canopoli and Fonte Niedda and the Museo Archeologico e Paleobotanico .

The parish church of Santa Maria degli Angeli with the Retablo di San Giorgio , an altarpiece from the 14th century consisting of numerous pictures, which has been on display again since 1995 after a long restoration, is worth seeing . Opposite the church is the also restored Nuragic fountain sanctuary Predio Canopoli . The stairs that lead from the vestibule with the sacrificial altar and the benches to the spring are particularly well preserved.

The highlight of the exhibition at the local museum are the flint stones discovered in 1979 in the alluvial land of the Riu Altana - artefacts from the Paleolithic Age between 500,000 and 120,000 years ago. They are the oldest stone tools in Sardinia. Previously it was assumed that Sardinia was only settled around 8,000 years ago. Relics of the Ozieri culture , Nuragic, Phoenician , Punic and medieval finds are also on display. Fossils can also be found from the “petrified forest” ( foresta petrificada ) near Martis and from other sites in the Anglona , the origin of which dates back 30–15 million years.

Two kilometers north is the small Catalan country church of San Giorgio and the Nuraghe Sas Ladai.
