Martis is an Italian municipality in the province of Sassari in Sardinia with 478 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).

Location and dates

Martis is 44 kilometers east of Sassari , on the SS 127 . The neighboring communities are Chiaramonti , Laerru , Nulvi and Perfugas .

The population of the municipality of Martis decreased from 1,220 in 1961 to 534 in 2013.

Culture and sights

Chiesa di San Pantaleo

A small palazzo from the 19th century and the Fontana Nuova fountain have been preserved in the town center .

Worth seeing in Martis is the Chiesa di San Pantaleo, which is dedicated to the patron saint of the community, Saint Pantaleo . Ligurian builders built this church at the beginning of the 14th century.

Fossilized tree trunks lie on a meadow a little east of the village.

Martis has a station on the Sassari – Palau railway line , which is regularly served by Trenino Verde trains in summer . Trains run from Sassari to Tempio Pausania , from there connection to Palau .
