Luogosanto (Gallurese: Locusàntu , holy place ) is an Italian municipality in the province of Sassari in northeastern Sardinia with 1860 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).

Location and dates

Luogosanto is a typical Sardinian shepherd's village with a long tradition, embedded in the gently rolling hills of Northern Sardinia and surrounded by old cork and holm oak forests. The place is located in the heart of Gallura and has an area of ​​135.45 km².

history

The Nuraghe Balaiana and some stone circles suggest that Luogosanto dates back to around 2500 BC. Was settled.

  • The Basilica di Nostra Signora di Luogosanto stands in the main square of Luogosanto.
