Santiago Mariano Rodríguez Molina (born January 8, 2000 in Montevideo ) is a Uruguayan football player who is currently under contract with the first division club Nacional Montevideo . He has been a Uruguayan U23 international since January 2020 .

Career

Santiago Rodríguez comes from the youth department of the first division club Nacional Montevideo from the Uruguayan capital. For the 2019 game year he was promoted to the first team. He made his competitive debut on February 4, 2019 in the Supercopa Uruguaya against arch-rivals Peñarol Montevideo . He was in the starting line-up and prepared the goal for 1-0 by Marcos Angeleri with a corner kick . Later the equalizer fell and in the 88th minute of the game, the midfielder flew off the field with a "smooth" red. Outnumbered, Nacional held the extra time draw and won on penalties . He made his league debut due to his suspension on February 27th (2nd matchday of Apertura) when he was substituted on for Guillermo Cotugno in the 1: 4 home defeat by Montevideo Wanderers in the 56th minute . He scored his first league goal in the Tricolores jersey on March 24 (6th matchday) in a 3-0 home win against Plaza Colonia . He quickly established himself as a regular player and finished the Apertura with nine inserts, in which he scored three goals and six assists. In the Clausura, he also scored three goals in 11 missions, while preparing another three goals.

National team

Between 2016 and 2017, he made 21 appearances for the Uruguayan U17 national team in which he did not score. He has been a Uruguayan U23 international since January 2020 .
