Santo Amaro was the seat of an independent municipality ( freguesia ) in the district ( concelho ) of Vila Nova de Foz Côa . 50 people live in the former municipal area (as of June 30, 2011).

As part of the administrative reorganization in Portugal , the municipality of Santo Amaro was dissolved on September 29, 2013 and, together with the municipality of Mós, became part of the municipality of Vila Nova de Foz Côa .
