Sapphire Award
The Sapphire Award is a literary award launched in 1995 by the editors of the Science Fiction Romance Newsletter . It is awarded annually for works that combine the two genres of speculative fiction and romance .
The newsletter has now been renamed Speculative Romance Online Magazine . All of the prizes awarded by this magazine are called Speculative Romance Awards, or Specrom Awards for short . These are, on the one hand, the Sapphire Award for works that have already been published and, on the other hand, the Zircon Award for works that have not yet been published.
The Sapphire Award is given in the categories Novel (novel) and Short Fiction (all short forms, only since 1999). The works available for election are nominated by the readers of the magazine. The winners will be determined by a jury. Works published in the previous year may be nominated. The year of the award corresponds to the nomination period, that is, the 1995 Sapphire Award was presented in 1996.
Lois McMaster Bujold , Catherine Asaro , Laurell K. Hamilton and Charlaine Harris are among the winners, who are also known in the “ordinary” SF / Fantasy / Horror sector .
All previously nominated authors are women.
