Laurell K. Hamilton (born February 19, 1963 in Heber Springs , Arkansas ) is an American author of erotic fantasy and horror novels .

biography

After her mother died in 1969 in a car accident, Laurell was raised by her grandmother Laura Gentry in Sims ( Indiana educated). At the age of thirteen, Hamilton decided to become a writer. She attended Indiana Wesleyan University , a Christian college in Indiana, and received her degrees in English and biology. First she worked as a teacher, later as an editor for a company in Los Angeles . During this time she wrote her first book Nightseer . Her first publication was the short story House of Wizards in Marion Zimmer Bradley's Fantasy Magazine Vol.1, # 4, 1989 . Her breakthrough came with her Anita Blake series. As a result, numerous of her books became bestsellers internationally. Hamilton now lives in St. Louis County , Missouri with her husband and daughter .

This series is a mixture of different genres such as horror, mystery, detective novel, fantasy, science fiction , thriller, romance and romance novel. Hamilton himself describes it as follows: "Robert E. Howard meets JRR Tolkien" . Anita Blake lives in St. Louis and is an animator ( necromancer ). Originally she can guide the undead , later this ability is expanded to include vampires. In her main job she brings the dead to life for a fee, e.g. B. for court surveys. She also works as a licensed vampire executioner and as a police advisor in supernatural criminal cases. As the series progresses, the focus of the plot shifts from detective stories to Blake's various romantic relationships and the development of her supernatural abilities.

A comic book adaptation of Anita Blake's first novel Guilty Pleasures was released by Marvel Comics in 2006.

Meredith Gentry Series

Meredith NicEssus (Merry Gentry) is a fairy princess, half human and half fairy. As a mortal princess at the Dark Fairy Court, however, she had a hard time, which is why she fled to Los Angeles to work as a private detective in secret. However, her identity is revealed and she is forced to return to the court. To survive, she must outdo the political intrigues of her enemies and father an heir to the throne. The series thrives on the strong erotic tension, the subtle conflicts and the story of the fairy people. The series is designed for seven to twelve books.
