Catherine Ann Asaro (born November 6, 1955 in Oakland , California ) is an American science fiction and fantasy writer.

Life

Catherine Asaro was born in Oakland, California. She grew up in El Cerrito , a small town north of Berkeley (California) .

She was trained in ballet when she was young and at the age of 15 she passed the entrance test for admission to the Royal Academy in London . But she decided not to study ballet there because her love for the natural sciences won out.

Instead, she studied at Harvard University , where she earned a master's degree in physics and a doctorate in chemical physics, and the University of California , where she was awarded a bachelor's degree with Highest Honors in chemistry .

During her student days at Harvard, she worked as a prima ballerina and choreographer for "The Mainly Jazz Dancers" and "The Harvard University Ballet". They made appearances on the east and west coasts of America as well as in Ohio . After their graduation, the Mainly Jazz Dancers were taken over by other (not yet graduated) students and converted into a permanent establishment of the university.

Catherine Asaro has conducted research at the University of Toronto in Canada , the Max Planck Institute for Astrophysics in Germany and the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics in the USA (applied quantum physics to describe the behavior of atoms and molecules) . Catherine Asaro was a physics professor at Kenyon College until 1990 . At that time she founded Molecudyne Research, a research facility that she still runs today.

Catherine Asaro was meanwhile President of SFWA . When she's not writing or doing guest appearances at various conferences, she teaches a math club for homeschool children of all ages.

She lives with her husband, John Kendall Cannizzo ( astrophysicist of NASA ) and her daughter (ballet dancer and mathematician) in Maryland .

Catherine Asaro is predominantly a representative of speculative romance . Depending on your point of view, she writes
