Sara Lobo Brites (born September 9, 1967 in Ermera , Portuguese Timor ) is a politician from East Timor and a member of the Congresso Nacional da Reconstrução Timorense (CNRT) party.

Career

Brites holds a degree in Management from Universidade Nasionál Timór Lorosa'e (UNTL). In 1992 she began her professional life in the tax office as a tax officer. She remained in this position until 1999. From 2000 to July 2003, she was Executive Secretary of the Project Director of the Community Empowerment and Local Governance Project. She then moved to the Ministry of Finance as a technical assistant to budget management in the State Budget Directorate. In 2008, Brites was promoted to acting deputy director of the budget administration department, and eventually director of the state budget.

On November 7, 2012, Brites became one of the two Vice-Governors of the Central Bank of East Timor ( Portuguese: Banco Central de Timor-Leste BCTL) for five years and on October 13, 2017, President Francisco Guterres became Vice Minister for Planning and Finance of the VII. East Timorese government appointed. The swearing-in took place on October 17th. Despite the change of power after the early elections in 2018 , Brites remained Deputy Minister for Finance in the 8th government . She was sworn in again on June 22nd. Since no finance minister could be appointed due to the blockade of President Francisco Guterres , Brites took over the management of the treasury. When on May 25, 2020 the members of the CNRT's government complied with their party's request and resigned from the cabinet, Brites stayed with the note that their role here was purely technical and operational.
