The Sarcophagus Point , a headland consisting of Lavakliffs on the west coast of Candlemas Iceland in the archipelago of the South Sandwich Islands . It is located on the southeast side of Sea Serpent Cove and almost completely separates the Medusa Pool from the open sea.
Scientists at the British Discovery Investigations named it descriptively as The Sarcophagus ( English for The Sarcophagus ). After surveying a hydrographic unit of the Royal Navy with the HMS Protector, the UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee adapted the designation in 1974.
