The sarcophagus (Norwegian for sarcophagus ) is a somewhat isolated mountain in Queen Maud Land, East Antarctica . In the Russkiye Mountains it rises 18 km south of Mount Yakovlev .
Cartographers from the Norsk Polar Institute , who also named it descriptively, mapped it using aerial photographs of the Third Norwegian Antarctic Expedition (1956–1960) from 1958 to 1959.
