The Sartre-Oberschule is a grammar school with around 610 students between the ages of 12 and 20 in the Berlin district of Hellersdorf in the Marzahn-Hellersdorf district .

history

The grammar school was opened on August 1, 1991 as then “3rd OG "opened. In 1995 it was named after the French philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre .

Due to the increasing number of students, three container buildings were added to the main building in the following years . In 1999 the construction of a new school building began, under the roof of which the teaching should take place.

On July 16, 2001, the entire school finally moved into a new, modern building, which is now located at 103 Kyritzer Strasse in Hellersdorf.

School profile

The Sartre-Gymnasium is a study and career-oriented school that promotes individual self-discovery for the later career choice.

foreign languages

The Sartre-Gymnasium is popular because of the foreign languages it offers. The school offers English as the first foreign language, Italian and French as the second foreign language and Latin and Russian as the third foreign language .

Sports offers

The students also enjoy good conditions for physical education. The school's sports area, which opened on September 15, 2003, has a large, air-conditioned hall (four volleyball fields, grandstands and twelve changing rooms, each with sanitary facilities), a soccer field, shot put, 100 m running track and long jump facility.

Working groups

There is the possibility to visit one of the many working groups (AGs), for example choir, web AG, technology AG, volleyball AG etc.

The buildings

On September 3, 2001, the Sartre-Gymnasium moved into the newly built school building based on a design by the British architect David Mackay. The central core of the building is a long school street, which, covered with glass, functions as a light-flooded “ urban ” center of movement and communication, and from which specialist rooms can be reached directly on the left and right and at the end a modern auditorium and the music area. A gallery on the first floor of this area provides access to the library , teachers' room, offices, cafeteria and computer rooms . The stairwells lead on one side along Schulstrasse ( atrium ) to two further floors in the main block, on the other side to the transverse wing. Both house further classrooms and specialist rooms. At the end of Schulstrasse follow - in creatively eccentric, cylinder segment-shaped building formations - the music studios (music, visual arts) next to the auditorium. Large-scale glazing and the orientation of the opening to the south and west ensure that the rooms are always flooded with light.

The central traffic areas are predominantly white, as well as sunny yellow and blue tones, so that, together with the abundant supply of daylight, a Mediterranean climate dominates the entire building and thus also noticeably shapes the psychological mood in the interactive context of those present. Schoolchildren, teachers, parents and employees appreciate this flair and that is why vandalistic actions by our students are extremely rare exceptions.

On the eastern side, the four-story main block closes off directly from Alten Hellersdorfer Straße. On the western side, the main block, which is stepped down, the side wing and the musical area enclose the large, planted schoolyard, so that the entire building constellation opens up to the surrounding residential buildings and the adjoining old people's home. The spacious main entrances and several side entrances complement the concept of an open and friendly building. A large and modern gymnasium with a sports field connects to the south opposite.

The main building offers three fully equipped computer cabinets (rooms 124, 125 and 127), an auditorium, three lecture halls, a cafeteria, a library, specially equipped art and music rooms (soundproofing, projectors , washbasins, sound systems, smartboards ), as well as numerous classrooms and somewhat smaller course rooms. The school network enables you to log into the school computer network from every room in the school.

Due to the increasing number of pupils, the school was expanded in 2004 to include House II (Biology House) and House III (English and Russian House). In 2008 houses II and III were closed again due to the falling number of students and integrated into the main building.

When the “100 best schools in Germany” were voted in 2005 by the business magazine Capital , the Sartre-Gymnasium came in 98th place.
