Sassov Hasidim

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Sassov Hasidim were a dynasty of Hasidim in Sassov in eastern Galicia. The place, today Sassiw in Ukraine , belonged to Poland-Lithuania until 1772 and then to Austrian Galicia until 1919 . The Sassow Hasidim dynasty was founded by Rabbi Moshe Leib , a student of Rabbi Dow Bär von Mesritsch , who in turn was a student of the founder of Hasidism, Baal Shem Tow (Israel ben Eliezer). Rabbi Yekusiel Shmelka Hereditary (1800–1861) was his son. His son was Rabbi Yaakov Tzvi Erblich in Porosow, his son Rabbi Moshe Yehudah Erblich (d. 1991), and his son is Rabbi Yaakov Tzvi Erblich, who is currently resident in Monsey, New York.

In the middle of the 19th century, the descendants of Rabbi Moshe Leib Erblich had all emigrated from Sassow to other cities. When the citizens of Sassow wanted a rabbi again, they turned to Sar Schalom von Belz , who recommended Reb Shlomo , who himself became an important rabbi.

Rabbi Lipa Meir Teitelbaum was the Sassov Keretzky Rebbe. He was the son-in-law of Rabbi Joel Teitelbaum of Satmar . He was followed by his two sons: Grand Rabbi Joseph Dovid Teitelbaum, the Sassover Rebbe in Kiryat Yismach Moshe in Ganei Tikva , in Israel and son-in-law of the Grand Rabbi David Moshe from the Hasidic dynasty of Kretchnif ; the other son was the future Rabbi Chanoch Heynach Teitelbaum, who is a Sassover Rebbe in Monsey .
