The sour cherries Aries Bock ( Xylotrechus Arvicola ) is a beetle from the family of longhorn beetles (Cerambycidae).

features

The sour cherry ram reaches a body length of eight to twenty millimeters. Because of the very similar yellow drawing of the elytra, Xylotrechus arvicola can easily be confused with Xylotrechus ibex , Xylotrechus capricornis , Xylotrechus antilope and some species of the genus Clytus , especially Clytus arietis .

The head (Fig. 1) is dense and finely dotted, the rear part is almost hairless. Before the Einlenkungsstellen the probe is turned to face a keel in front of the eyes to the mouth parts continues down. In the middle of the forehead, two further longitudinal keels run parallel to one another, which unite with one another at the front and rear ends. Between these central keels the head is bald. Between the middle and outer keels, the head is short, dense yellow and hairy on the outside. These keels are absent in the Clytus species and are only very weak in Xylotrechus antilope . The eleven-link antennae are thread-shaped, the third link is the longest, the fourth and fifth link are almost the same length.

The pronotum (Fig. 2) is almost as long as it is wide. It is not hairy as it is in the Clytus species. In contrast to Xylotrechus antilope , the greatest width of the pronotum is not a little behind the middle, but clearly behind the middle. The pronotum is not evenly rounded when viewed from above, as is the case with Xylotrechus antilope , but widens only slightly rounded from the front to the widest point, behind it it quickly narrows to the constriction at the base. Unlike in Xylotrechus ibex , Xylotrechus capricornis and in the Clytus species, the puncture on the back of the pronotum produces clear transverse wrinkles, while the puncture is much less coarse on the sides. The front edge and the base of the pronotum are finely edged. At the base of the pronotum there are two yellow spots on the sides and a cross-band interrupted in the middle at the front edge.

The elytra are about a third wider at the shoulders than the base of the pronotum, but hardly wider than the pronotum at its widest point and a little less than three times as long as this. They narrow fairly evenly towards the rear. They end at an angle, with the angle at the seam being greater than the angle at the outer edge of the wing cover (Fig. 3, the apex of the angle indicated by green arrows). The base of the wings is usually lightened brown next to the label . The elytra have three yellow bands. The foremost is short and lies approximately perpendicular to the body axis in the outer wing cover area. The second begins at the level of the first near the seam, increases backwards from the seam and then bends outwards almost at right angles. The third band runs inwards slightly forwards, connects at the seam with the corresponding band on the other wing cover and pulls itself slightly forward. In addition, the tips of the elytra are hairy yellow.

The label is about twice as wide as it is long, bluntly rounded at the back and only yellow haired at the back.

The antennae and legs are yellow-red, the belly rings have a wide yellow border.

Occurrence

The species is on the red list in Germany as critically endangered . The distribution area includes Europe , especially Central and Eastern Europe, as well as the Caucasus region , Turkey , Iran , northern Kazakhstan , the Middle East and North Africa .

Way of life

The beetles fly from May to August. The beetle's development cycle lasts two years. The larvae live and feed on the dead wood of deciduous trees, especially fruit trees. Contrary to the German name, the occurrence is not limited to sour cherries .
