Kristo Matson

Kristo Matson (born November 25, 1980 in Pärnu ) is an Estonian composer and musician.

life and work

Kristo Matson took courses in trombone , music theory and composition at the Heino Eller Music School in Tartu and in theology at the University of Tartu . He also studied at the Estonian Academy of Music with Tõnu Kõrvits and Helena Tulve . He has been teaching music theory since 2005, initially at the Heino Eller Music School in Tartu and since 2007 at the Tallinna Muusikakeskkool Music High School in Tallinn . Matson has been a member of the Estonian Composers' Union ( Eesti Heliloojate Liit ) since 2007 .

Kristo Matson has presented various works for symphony orchestra, for strings and for clarinet, as well as pieces for choirs. His most famous works include the Cantus in memoriam Malera Kasuku for symphony orchestra, which was premiered in 2005 by Eesti Riiklik Sümfooniaorkester under Risto Joost and played again in 2008 as part of the Estonian Music Days, as well as his 2007 string quartet and the Song of Silence (2008) for soprano , Alto, female choir, flute, guitar and percussion . His chamber music work REM for bass clarinet , baritone electric guitar and drums, premiered in 2010, is one of the six selected Estonian works to be performed at the 2012 ISCM World Music Days .
