The Scandal Beck is a watercourse in Cumbria , England . The Scandal Beck is created at Scandal Head on the north side of the Wild Boar Fell . It runs first in a northerly direction through Ravenstonedale and east of Crosby Garrett before turning east in Soulby to then flow into the River Eden .

At Brunt Hill, 2 km southeast of Ravenstonedale, on the edge of the watercourse, the stratigraphy of the Quaternary can be read in the rock layers, in a unique way for northern England. The section is specially protected as Scandal Beck, Brunt Hill Site of Special Scientific Interest .

North of Ravenstonedale, rich deposits of animals and plants can be found in the rock layers on the edge of the Scandal Beck in the limestone . The area is specially protected as the Scandal Beck and Stone Gill Site of Special Scientific Interest .

South of Waitby, the river flows through the Smardale Gill valley cut . The river section and its immediate surroundings are specially protected as the Smardale Gill Site of Special Scientific Interest . To the east of the watercourse is the Smardale Gill Natural Nature Reserve .
