Scapania calcicola is a liverwort species of the order Lophoziales .

features

The plants are one to three centimeters long, up to a millimeter wide and are brown-green. The leaves are divided up to half, the leaf lobes are unequal in size. The upper lobes are rectangular or egg-shaped, briefly pointed and serrated away. They do not reach over the trunk. The lower lobes are twice as large as the upper lobes, tongue or ovoid and 1.5 times as long as they are wide. They are often serrated away at the tip of the leaf. In the middle of the leaf, the cells are 18 to 20 × 22 to 30 micrometers in size, the corners of the cells have triangular thickenings. The cuticle is papillary or almost smooth. Each cell contains two to four oil bodies . There are brood bodies .

Distribution and locations

The species has a boreal-montane distribution and occurs in Europe, Siberia and eastern North America. It grows on rather moist, calcareous rocks, on loess and on calcareous soil.
