features

The beetles reach a body length of 5 to 6.5 millimeters. Their black, bald body is elongated and elliptical-boat-shaped. The forward tapered neck shield is slightly constricted at the sides behind the center and has a slanted impression. Its surface is finely dotted, in front of the base there is a larger semicircle with dots. The wings are unspotted and have six stripes with dots. The stripes are shortened at the back and sides. Basal there is a rough, transverse, somewhat curved row of points. The surface of the wings is finely dotted between the dotted stripes. The wing top seam is deeply indented. The rails ( tibia ) of the hind legs are strongly curved. The base of the antennae , the tarsi and palpi are brown-red in color, the tip of the antennae is somewhat cloudy. The splints and legs ( femora ) are dark brown. The head of the animals is almost smooth.

The species occurs in southern and western Europe. It populates the Mediterranean area from southern France via Italy to the Balkan Peninsula and Greece as well as North Africa. In Eastern Europe, the species is distributed north to Hungary, Slovakia and Austria. In the west the distribution extends to northern France, the south of England, Holland and the west of Germany.
