Schönau is a district of the Upper Bavarian municipality of Tuntenhausen with around 600 inhabitants. It is roughly halfway between the districts of Beyharting and Hohenthann.

history

Schönau was first mentioned in the traditions of Freising in 846 . The original name was Sconninauhu , which means something like "by the beautiful Au". The term “beautiful” here means “fertile”. The name changed over time via Sconinouua , Sconinowa and Schoenawe to the current spelling.

Schönau was first mentioned as a separate parish in 1315. This parish was incorporated into Beyharting Monastery on June 4, 1428 . In 1827 Schönau was partially destroyed in a fire. In 1813 the village of Schönau consisted of 12 properties, a rectory and a branch church. Schönau had around 110 inhabitants in 1820. Traumfänger Verlag has existed since 2008 .

Schönau Church

According to a legend, the church was originally supposed to be built between Weng and Söhl. During the first work, however, a worker was injured and blood ran on the wood chips. Crows then brought these shavings to the current location of the church.

A church in Schönau is mentioned for the first time in 1580. Today's St. Mary's Church was built in 1720 by master bricklayer Thomas Mayr from Grafing . This was partially destroyed in a fire in 1827 and rebuilt and renovated in the following decades.
