features

The harlequin harlequin has an elongated, torpedo-shaped body that is strongly flattened on the sides. It reaches a maximum length of 8 to 10 cm. The basic color is reddish, the back is brownish. On the sides of the body there are two dark spots, one above the pectoral fins, the other above the anal fin. The spots can be connected by an indicated band consisting of dots. The fins are blood red, the tip of the anal fin dark. The iris shines red above, golden below. Males are slimmer and more vividly colored, females are more compact.

Way of life

Blue-finned barbels live in the middle layers of water, are not schooling fish, but live in socially interacting groups, from which reproductive pairs separate briefly and form small territories that they defend from other species.

Aquaristics

The beautiful finfish was introduced to Germany for the first time in 1965. It is sensitive to transport and often comes onto the market completely weakened and does not survive long in the aquarium.
