The Schöntaler Pflegehof is a former care yard of the Schöntal Monastery in Wimmental , a suburb of the city of Weinsberg ( Heilbronn district , Baden-Württemberg ). Today it houses the Catholic parish of Wimmentals.

Location and surroundings

The Schöntaler Pflegehof is located west of the historic center of Wimmental, in Grantschener Straße, below the Kapellenberg . Directly opposite is the Schöntal wine press from 1581, the former Wimmentals wine press building and the former tithe barn.

history

Wimmental first belonged to the estate of Weinsberg . The Schöntal Monastery acquired the majority of the town from Konrad von Weinsberg in 1317. In 1357 the monastery acquired ¼ of the major and minor tithe from a Heilbronn citizen. In 1408 it acquired all her goods from Konrad Adelmann's widow and 1/30 tithes, which Konrad Adelmann received from Engelhard von Weinsberg as a fief. By acquiring further shares and rights, the Schöntal monastery came into the possession of the entire village with the bailiwick and other rights until 1487 .

About 30 kilometers from the actual monastery, the Pflegehof in Wimmental was the local facility for exercising the rights and claims of the monastery. The building complex burned down in the Thirty Years War . The building was rebuilt in 1678 under Abbot Franciscus. An inscription with a chronogram on the front of the house names the client:

PraesVLe franCIsCo post CaeDes,

There was a large wine cellar under the care yard, in which 3,000 buckets of wine could be stored. By selling the wine in the Swabian imperial cities, monasteries and castles, the Schöntal monastery had significant income. A house chapel with a tower was added in 1725 under Abbot Benedikt Knittel . In 1748 the building was expanded. A guardian angel stands on the wall, made of a stone that bears the Schöntal coat of arms.

In 1802–1803 the Schöntal monastery was abolished, and Württemberg acquired Wimmental and the monastery maintenance there. In 1828 most of the former Schöntal nursing farm was demolished. The Catholic pastor received a spacious apartment in a half-timbered house that was left standing and was also allowed to use the large tree and root garden of the complex.
