Schüttkau in Schwittersum

Schüttkau is the name for a pen in East Frisia .

The extensive pastures in the marshland used to be limited only by streams and drainage ditches . Because of this, it happened that cattle could run away. The finder brought the animal to the Schüttkau, where the owner could then pick it up.

An example of this roofless building made of plastered brick can be seen in Schwittersum , a district of the Dornum municipality .
