Schwittersum , to which Resterhafe also belongs, is a district of the municipality of Dornum in East Friesland . In 2008 the district had 596 inhabitants.

Surname

The place is mentioned for the first time in 1442 as Swiderssum . In 1589 it was called Swittersum . The current spelling has been used since 1645. The place name is a combination of the nickname Switter (t) with -um (from -hem ), which means home.

location

Schwittersum is about four kilometers south of the North Sea coast. The main town of the municipality, Dornum, is located about one and a half kilometers to the northwest. The place was founded as a Warfendorf , which is surrounded by Kalkmarsch .

On July 1, 1972, Schwittersum was incorporated into the municipality of Dornum.
