Resterhafe is a village in the municipality of Dornum , Aurich district , East Frisia , Lower Saxony .

history

The place is first mentioned as Reesterhove in 1481, but is likely to be much older, as St. Matthew's Church was built in the second half of the 13th century on a freestanding terp over five meters high .

Personalities

The most famous son of the place is the astronomer Johann Fabricius , who was born here in 1587. His father, David Fabricius , was a pastor here from 1584 to 1603. The districts of Schwittersum and Reersum also belong to the parish of Resterhafe .

Another well-known person who was born in the village is Ferdinand Kittel , a missionary from the Basel Mission , who has made great contributions through linguistic work on the southern Indian language of Kannada .
