The Imst rifle company (SK Imst) is a rifle company in the Tyrolean Oberland , embedded in the Starkenberg battalion and the Oberland shooting district.

history

The first records and documentary mentions of the Imst shooting range go back to the 15th and 16th centuries. Several Imst personalities shaped the history of shooting in the early years, such as Elias Wörz in the Spanish Wars of Succession (1700–1714). Elias Wörz, mayor of the Imst market and “district representative” or “ Upper Inntal Defense Commissioner” for 20 years , coordinated the marches of the imperial troops and transported officers and couriers. In 1703 he set up a voluntary rifle company at his own expense for the purpose of resisting the invading Bavarian troops. With this rifle company he moved as a captain, accompanied by his son Georg, to the besieged Ausserfern to the Ehrenberger Klause and supported the Ausserferner riflemen together with various companies from the "Oberen - Gricht". Because of his merits, he was elevated to the knightly imperial and Austrian-Hereditary nobility with the historical title "von Sprengenstein" by Emperor Josef I on September 20, 1709 . Martin Sterzinger, born in Imst on March 4, 1664, made a name for himself at this time. As a care administrator, he was obliged under the Tyrolean Armed Forces Constitution to nominate national defenders in an emergency. On July 1, 1703, the Oberlanders defeated the Bavarian troops in the Pontlatzer trap near Landeck (Tyrol) . The troops under Colonel Novin and Lieutenant Colonel Taufkirchen had to surrender.

The year 1779 is documented as the year the Imster Schützenkompanie was founded. The first rifle flag, which was carried in the war years 1797 and 1809, dates from 1797. The second flag was donated by the Imperial Highness Archduke Johann in 1851 in recognition of the rifle company .

The Mayor of Imst, factory owner and captain Johann Georg Strele was in contact with the leaders of the secret Tyrolean insurrection movement, Andreas Hofer , Martin Teimer and Freiherr von Hormayr . JG Strele moved to the Engadin as captain of the 2nd Imst sniper company against the French in 1799. After the successful operations of the Imst company in the Bergisel battles of 1809, Andreas Hofer appointed Captain Strele as special and defense commissioner for the Imst area on June 4, 1809.

The priest Stephan Krismer , better known as "s'Krismer Stöffele", was also famous at this time . The priest, born on December 25, 1777 in Karres, was already valued and recognized as an assistant priest because of his unwavering loyalty to the country and the emperor.

First World War

On August 15, 1861, the statutes of the Imst Citizens' Protection Company came into force. During the First World War , in 1915, the trains and companies of the Standschützen Battalion from the Imst court, as the last contingent of men aged 17 to 65, if they had not yet been called up to the regular troops, moved to the threatened southern border of the country to protect against enemy attack by the Italians (entry into the war of originally "neutral" Italy in 1915). In 1915 the battalion of the Imst court numbered 13 officers, 63 non-commissioned officers and 247 men. This battalion arrived in Toblach on May 23, 1915 and was deployed on the Dolomite front and in the last three months of the war in 1918 on the Tonale front.

World War II and after

On July 21, 1929, a new rifle flag was inaugurated on the occasion of the 150th anniversary. At the beginning of the Second World War, the rifle company moved out only a few times under its captain Hans Strobl. In 1942 the activities of the rifle company were completely stopped, on the one hand because of the bans of the Nazi regime, on the other hand because of the lack of riflemen, as a large number of Imst riflemen were drafted into various front sections during World War II. Due to a general ban on weapons, stipulated by the Allied occupying powers, the riflemen, under the leadership of Captain Josef Heel (Bessler), moved out for the first time with shepherds' sticks during the Corpus Christi procession. Most of the rifles were confiscated by the American and French occupying forces. However, it was possible to hide some weapons and ammunition well so that they were used again in the company at a later date. In 1947 the French occupation provided rifles and ammunition for the Corpus Christi procession . The rifles were distributed on the church square before the procession and collected again after the procession and returned to the occupiers. In the commemorative year 1809-1959, a memorial plaque for the s'Krismer Stöffele , who was regarded as a hero of freedom, was inaugurated in Imst for the first time . (Years later, this plaque was stolen and rebuilt and inaugurated by the district management under Major Thaler Walter for the commemorative year 2009).

By negotiating at the annual general meeting on January 6, 1976 with Mayor Adolf Walch, Captain Klingenschmid Ander managed to get a suitable plot of land (Engerebichl / Hoadebichl) for the rifle home to be built. The Imst architect Helmut Krismer "Pleller" planned the new rifle shelter and on August 23, 1976 work began with the excavation of the construction area. After seven years of construction, the Schützenheim was inaugurated on October 29, 1983 by Dean Monsignore Alfons Lorenz. At the regimental assembly in 1993 Strobl Horst was elected district commander and at the district assembly in 1994 in the Imst rifle shelter, Thaler Walter was elected district major as the successor to Major Siegele. The 50th anniversary of the re-establishment was celebrated together with the battalion and district rifle festival from July 10th to 12th, 1998 in Imst. At the district assembly on January 3, 2010, Mjr Gstrein Heinrich was elected as the new district major of the Imst shooting district, which he still heads today.

Institution shooters

In 1898, the institutional shooters, which exist only in Imst, were founded by the three Imst citizens Maria Schweighofer, Anna Decorona and Rosa Neurauter, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the priesthood of Dean Johann Paul Raich. They moved out for the first time for this ceremony. The prison riflemen, dressed in traditional Imster costume, are recruited from “Imster Buabe” who visit the municipal kindergartens, formerly known as the child preservation institute. The “kindergartners” were originally looked after by the Sisters of Charity at the convent. From the 1950s onwards, Sister Miriam tried to look after the prison gunners. From 1968, at the request of the municipality of Imst, the Imst rifle company took over the support.
