The Altstadt / Rhein -Quartier is located in the center of the city of Schaffhausen. The quarter surrounds the entire old town, the lower town and the Rhine, which forms the border between the canton of Schaffhausen and the canton of Zurich . In the north, the quarter borders on Adlerstrasse at Schwabentor. The border in the east forms the Bachstrasse in the upper part of the quarter and the Fischerhäuser / Buchthalerstrasse junction in the lower part. The landmark of both the quarter and the entire city of Schaffhausen is the Munot . The medieval fortress was built between 1564 and 1589 by the citizens of Schaffhausen under slave labor . The Stars in Town music festival has been held annually since 2010 on the Herrenacker, the largest square in the city . The quarter is particularly lively due to the car-free squares and alleys. Due to the low volume of traffic, the old town is bypassed by public transport, but you can get to a stop in just a few minutes from any part of the quarter. The most important street in the quarter is the Rheinuferstrasse along the Rhine. The road traffic and shipping office of the canton of Schaffhausen is also located in the south of the old town.
