Schattenkinder is a neoclassical dark wave formation from Dresden .

history

Schattenkinder was started in 2001 by Reiner J. as a studio project. The band name, which was retained mainly because of its memorability, also dates from this time. A second permanent member of the project was found in Madeleine A. as a singer.

After a period of several line-up changes, Schattenkinder has existed in its current line-up since the beginning of 2003.

After the first debut album "Vision of Nightfall" was released in 2004 by the label Dark Wings , which has since gone bankrupt, the second long player Weisser Regen followed in February 2008 on the Curzweyhl label . Since 2003, Schattenkinder have been giving concerts every now and then, with the music being accompanied by a background video show.

music

While the first demo pieces were cross-border with influences between New German Death Art and Neofolk , the current style of Schattenkinder crystallized in the course of further collaboration. While the basic melancholy mood suggests borrowings from the dark wave environment, influences from world music , folk and trip-hop ensure that the music is removed despite being related to bands like Dargaard , Stoa , Bel Canto or Love Is Colder Than Death Echoes of Dead Can Dance represents an independent mix. The singing of the two lead singers is particularly formative, but also the classically inspired violin entries, while electronic rhythms and soundscapes as well as guitars and bass sounds set accents. The band uses multilingualism and linguistic sound, even within a song, as stylistic devices. The singing is in ancient Greek, French, English and German.
